7 December – TheGuyanese government confirms that five military officers who were in aBell 412EPhelicopter that crashed near the border withVenezuela have died and that two others survived the crash. The helicopter went missing on Wednesday during bad weather conditions. It is the deadliest incident inGuyanese military history.[6]
8 December – Amid growing border tensions between Guyana and Venezuela, the U.S. embassy in Guyana announces that theUnited States Southern Command will conduct joint flight operations with theGuyana Defence Force.[7]
24 December – TheUnited Kingdom announces that it will deploy the patrol vesselHMSTrent off the coast ofGuyana amid Guyana's dispute withVenezuela over the Essequibo region.[11]
