In the early morning of June 24, 2022, anIlyushinIl-76MD cargo aircraft of theRussian Air Force[1] was operating a flight fromOrenburg Tsentralny Airport toBelgorod International Airport with an intermediate flight toDyagilevo air base crashed immediately after takeoff from Dyagilevo air base,[1] near theMikhailovsky highway area in the city ofRyazan.[2]
According to the RussianMinistry of Defence, the plane was operating a training flight fromOrenburg toBelgorod and landing inRyazan for refueling.[1]
There were 9 crew members on board.

The aircraft performed a training flight fromOrenburg toBelgorod with an intermediate landing (for refueling) inRyazan. There was nocargo on board of the aircraft.[4]
Immediately after takeoff from the air base inRyazan, a fire broke out in its No.4 engine.[5] The crew decided to make an emergency landing. Before landing, the plane circled over themeadows.[6]
At 3:18 PM, the plane made a hard landing on the ground, damaging power lines. The plane crashed and caught fire. There is no significant damage on the ground after the crash.[7]
Three people died immediately after the crash. The remaining 6 were hospitalized. Two more people later died in the hospital.[8]
