The2020 Delaware gubernatorial election was held on November 3, 2020, to elect thegovernor of Delaware, concurrently with the2020 U.S. presidential election, as well aselections to theUnited States Senate and elections to theUnited States House of Representatives and variousstate and local elections. IncumbentDemocratic governorJohn Carney was re-elected to a second term, defeatingRepublican Julianne Murray in a landslide.[1]

Republican primary

TheRepublican primary was hotly contested between Julianne Murray, an attorney fromGeorgetown, andColin Bonini, aDelaware state senator from the16th district and the Republican nominee for thegovernor of Delaware in2016. Murray ended up winning the nomination. Although Bonini won Kent and New Castle counties, the latter of which is home toWilmington and is the most populouscounty in the state, Murray wonSussex County, which is the most Republican county in the state and overall had the most votes, allowing her to carry the nomination.
