The2017 FIBA AmeriCup was the 18th edition of theFIBA AmeriCup, which is the main tournament for senior men'sbasketball national teams of theFIBA Americas. The tournament was held inMedellín,Colombia,Montevideo,Uruguay, andBahía Blanca andCórdoba, inArgentina, from 25 August, to 3 September 2017.[1]
Unlike previous editions, the tournament did not award spots for theFIBA World Cup or theSummer Olympic Games. However, the top seven teams qualified to the2019 Pan American Games.
TheUnited States, with a team ofNBA G League players, won their seventhgold medal at the tournament, after defeatingArgentina, by a score of 81–76, in the final, whileMexico took home thebronze, by beating theU.S. Virgin Islands, 79–65.[2][3]
The top five teams at the2016 Centrobasket and2016 South American Championship qualified to the tournament, plus Canada and United States as the only countries in their subregion.
On 5 April 2017FIBA Americas announced thatArgentina,Colombia andUruguay were chosen as the hosts of the AmeriCup.[1]
