German touring car championship season

Marco Wittmann (left) won his second Drivers' Championship whileEdoardo Mortara (right) finished second in the championship.

The2016 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters was the thirtieth season of premier German touring car championship and also seventeenth season under the moniker ofDeutsche Tourenwagen Masters since the series' resumption in 2000. The season started on 7 May atHockenheim, and ended on 16 October at the same venue.Marco Wittmann won his 2ndDTM championship after a total of nine events.^[1]

2015 GP3 Series champion and Mercedes DTM reserve driverEsteban Ocon made his DTM debut withMercedes-Benz.^[5]

Leaving DTM

2015 DTM championPascal Wehrlein left the series to race inFormula One withManor Racing.^[5]

Mid-season changes

Adrien Tambay was injured in the first race of Round 5 withRené Rast replacing him for race 2.^[11] 　
After Round 5,Esteban Ocon left the DTM to race inFormula One withManor Racing. He was replaced by2015 European Formula 3 champion and Mercedes DTM reserve driverFelix Rosenqvist.^[6]
René Rast replacedMattias Ekström at Hockenheim for the final round.^[10] After that he andMike Rockenfeller were swapped in the team.^[9]
