The2016–17 Southern Miss Golden Eagles men's basketball team represented theUniversity of Southern Mississippi during the2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Golden Eagles, led by third-year head coachDoc Sadler, played their home games atReed Green Coliseum inHattiesburg, Mississippi and were members ofConference USA. They finished the season 9–22, 6–12 inC-USA play to finish in 12th place. They lost in the first round of theC-USA tournament toRice.

Previous season

TheGolden Eagles finished the2015–16 season 8–21, 5–13 inC-USA play to finish in a tie for 12th place. Due to an ongoing NCAA investigation into NCAA violations and illegal benefits for players under former coachDonnie Tyndall, they self-imposed a postseason ban for the second consecutive year, which included theC-USA tournament.[1]
