The2015 WNBA All-Star Game is anexhibitionbasketball game. It was played on July 25, 2015. TheConnecticut Sun hosted aWNBA All-Star Game for the fourth time. The Sun previously hosted the game in2005,2009, and2013.[1]
Starters for the game were selected by fan voting. Fans were able to select threefrontcourt players and twoguards.Elena Delle Donne of theChicago Sky led voting with 18,034 votes.[2]Maya Moore won the MVP of the All-Star game and led the Western Conference to a 117–112 victory over the Eastern Conference.[3]
Coaches were determined by the previous year's conference championships.Sandy Brondello, coach of the defendingWNBA andWest championPhoenix Mercury coached the Western Conference, whilePokey Chatman, coach of the defendingEast championChicago Sky, coached the East. It was the first time coaching the All-Star Game for both coaches.
In addition to Elena Delle Donne,Shoni Schimmel of theAtlanta Dream were voted as backcourt starters for the East, withAngel McCoughtry of the Dream,Tamika Catchings of the Fever, andTina Charles of theNew York Liberty as frontcourt starters.[4]
Reserves includedStefanie Dolson andEmma Meesseman of theWashington Mystics,Cappie Pondexter of the Chicago Sky,Alex Bentley andKelsey Bone of the Sun, andMarissa Coleman of the Fever.[5]
GuardSkylar Diggins of theTulsa Shock was the top vote getter in the West, and was joined in the backcourt bySeimone Augustus of theMinnesota Lynx. Starting frontcourt for the West wereMaya Moore of theMinnesota Lynx,Brittney Griner andCandice Dupree of thePhoenix Mercury. Both Diggins and Augustus were unable to play due to a knee injury, and was replaced in the starting lineup bySue Bird of the Storm andDeWanna Bonner of the Mercury respectively.
Reserves includedLindsay Whalen of the Lynx,Nneka Ogwumike of the Sparks,Plenette Pierson of theTulsa Shock, andDanielle Robinson of theSan Antonio Stars. Whalen was unable to play due to an eye injury, andJantel Lavender of the Sparks,Kayla McBride of the Stars, andRiquna Williams of the Shock were named as an injury replacement for Diggins, Augustus, and Whalen respectively.[6]
