The2014 Minnesota Secretary of State election was held on November 4, 2014, to elect theMinnesota Secretary of State.
IncumbentDemocratic–Farmer–Labor Secretary of StateMark Ritchie did not run for re-election to a third term in office.[1] Primary elections were held on August 12, 2014. The Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party (DFL) nominated State RepresentativeSteve Simon, theRepublican Party nominated State RepresentativeDan Severson and theIndependence Party nominated business process analyst Bob Helland.
Simon narrowly defeated Severson in the general election.
The Democratic–Farmer–Labor endorsement was made on May 31, 2014. State RepresentativeSteve Simon was endorsed by acclamation over fellow State RepresentativeDebra Hilstrom, who conceded before the results of the first ballot were announced and withdrew from the race.[2]
