Ageneral election was held in theU.S. state ofColorado on November 4, 2014. All of Colorado's executive officers were up for election as well as aUnited States Senate seat and all of Colorado's seven seats in theUnited States House of Representatives.Primary elections were held on June 24, 2014.

Governor and lieutenant governor

IncumbentDemocraticGovernorJohn Hickenlooper and hisLieutenant GovernorJoseph García ran for re-election to a second term in office. They were unopposed for the Democratic nomination[1] In Colorado, gubernatorial candidates pick their running mates and they are elected on the same ticket.

TheRepublicans nominee was former U.S. Representative and nominee for governorin 2006Bob Beauprez, whose running mate wasDouglas CountyCommissioner Jill Repella.[2][3] He defeatedSecretary of State of ColoradoScott Gessler,[4][5] former Minority Leader of theColorado SenateMike Kopp[5][6] and former U.S. Representative andConstitution Party nominee for governorin 2010Tom Tancredo[7] in the primary election.

Libertarian Matthew Hess and his running mate Brandon Young,[8] Greens Bill Bartlett and Harry Hempy[9] and Independents Mike Dunafon, Mayor ofGlendale,[10] and Jim Rundberg[11] also ran.

Attorney General

IncumbentRepublican Attorney GeneralJohn Suthers was term-limited form seeking a third consecutive term. Republican nominee Chief Deputy Attorney GeneralCynthia Coffman defeated Democratic nominee former deputy attorney general Don Quick with 51.4% of the vote.[13]

Incumbent RepublicanSecretary of StateScott Gessler did not run for re-election to a second term in office. He instead ran unsuccessfully for governor.[5] As of 2025, this was the last time a Republican was elected Secretary of State of Colorado.

El Paso CountyClerk & RecorderWayne W. Williams was the Republican nominee.[14]Arapahoe CountyCommissioner Nancy Doty considered running,[15] but decided against it.[16]

Democratic primary

Regent of theUniversity of ColoradoJoe Neguse was the Democratic nominee.[18] Former Majority Leader of theColorado Senate and nominee for secretary of state in 2006 Ken Gordon had also declared his candidacy in December 2012,[19] though it was unclear if he was continuing in the race after Neguse entered in June 2013.[20][21][22] Gordon died of a heart attack in December 2013.[23][24][25] Former state senatorAngela Giron also considered running for the Democratic nomination,[26] but she decided against it.[27]

American Constitution primary

Former U.S. Representative and former Assistant Secretary for Intergovernmental Affairs in theUnited States Department of Homeland SecurityBetsy Markey was the Democratic nominee.[38] Pat Quinn, the outgoing mayor ofBroomfield, had also declared his candidacy in June 2013,[39] but he withdrew from the race in November 2013.[40]

Incumbent Democratic senatorMark Udall unsuccessfully ran for re-election to a second term in office.[1]

U.S. RepresentativeCory Gardner was the Republican nominee,[42][43][44] businessman Gaylon Kent was the Libertarian nominee,[45] Unity Party of America founder and National Chairman Bill Hammons is the Unity Party nominee,[46] and neurosurgeon and conservative activist Steve Shogan ran as an independent.[47]
