The2013 NHL entry draft was the 51stentry draft for theNational Hockey League. It was held on June 30, 2013, at thePrudential Center inNewark, New Jersey.[1][2] The top three selections wereNathan MacKinnon by theColorado Avalanche,Aleksander Barkov by theFlorida Panthers, andJonathan Drouin by theTampa Bay Lightning.

As of 2025 there are 53 active NHL players from this draft.

Eligibility

Ice hockey players born between January 1, 1993, and September 15, 1995,[3] were eligible for selection in the 2013 NHL entry draft. Additionally, un-drafted, non-North American players born in 1992 were eligible for the draft; and those players who were drafted in the2011 NHL entry draft, but not signed by an NHL team and who were born after June 30, 1993, were also eligible to re-enter the draft.[4]

Draft lottery

Beginning with the 2013 NHL entry draft, all 14 teams not qualifying for theStanley Cup playoffs had a "weighted" chance at winning the first overall selection.[5] TheColorado Avalanche won the 2013 draft lottery that took place on April 29, 2013, thus moving them up from the second pick to the first pick.
