The97thJapan Championships in Athletics (第97回日本陸上競技選手権大会,Dai 97 kai Nihon Rikujō Kyōgi Sensyuken Taikai) were held atAjinomoto Stadium inChōfu. Organised byJAAF, the three-day competition took place from June 7–9 and served as thenational championships intrack and field for theJapan. The competition was for the qualifying trial for theJapan team at the2013 World Championships.

During the competition, 3 new championship records were set in the events.Koji Murofushi won the hummer throw's national champions for nineteen consecutive years.^[1] For theMost Valuable Player of the Championships,Ryota Yamagata andHitomi Niiya were selected.

The competition was broadcast on television byNHK.
