The2011Melbourne Football Club season was the club's 112th year in theVFL/AFL since it began in 1897.

In January, the club announcedBrad Green as captain, taking over the reins from the recently retiredJames McDonald.Aaron Davey,Brent Moloney andJared Rivers were named vice captains while youngstersNathan Jones andJack Grimes were promoted to the leadership group.[1]Dean Bailey was re-appointed coach, but was sacked after a near-record 186-point loss toGeelong inRound 19.[2]
