The2011–12 season wasDumbarton's third consecutive season in theScottish Second Division, having been promoted from theScottish Third Division at the end of the2008–09 season.[1] Dumbarton also competed in theChallenge Cup,League Cup andScottish Cup.

Summary

Dumbarton finished third in theSecond Division,[2] entering the play-offs winning 6–2 againstAirdrie United on aggregate in the final and were promoted to theScottish First Division.[3] They reached the second round of theChallenge Cup,[4] the first round of theLeague Cup[5] and the third round of theScottish Cup.[6]
