The2006 Kansas gubernatorial election took place on November 7, 2006. Incumbent Democratic GovernorKathleen Sebelius, who sported high approval ratings[1] ran for re-election to serve a second and final term. She was unopposed for theDemocratic nomination and facedRepublicanState SenatorJim Barnett, who emerged from a crowded primary. Sebelius defeated Barnett and was re-elected with more than 57% of the vote. Barnett ran for Governor of Kansas again in 2018 and lost the Republican primary.
