The2006Arizona House of Representatives election took place on Tuesday, November 7, 2006, with the primary election held on Tuesday, September 12, 2006.[ 6] [ 7] Arizona voters elected all 60 members of theArizona House of Representatives in multi-member districts to serve two-year terms.[ 8]
The election coincided withUnited States national elections andArizona state elections , includingU.S. Senate ,U.S. House ,Arizona governor , andArizona Senate .[ 9] [ 10]
Following theprevious election in 2004 ,Republicans held a 38-to-22-seat majority overDemocrats .[ 11] [ 12] [ 13] During the legislative session, RepresentativeCheryl Chase switched political party affiliation fromDemocrat toRepublican .[ a] Republicans maintained their majority in 2006, though the GOP majority narrowed to 33 seats. At 27 members,Democrats experienced a net gain of six seats.[ 6] [ 9] [ 10] The newly elected members served in the48th Arizona State Legislature , during which RepublicanJim Weiers was re-elected as Speaker of the Arizona House.[ b]
