The2004 United States Senate election in Alabama took place on November 2, 2004, alongside other elections to theUnited States Senate in other states as well as elections to theUnited States House of Representatives and various state and local elections. Incumbent Republican SenatorRichard Shelby won re-election to a fourth term.
Shelby, who switched parties ten years prior, had over $11 million cash on hand.[1] Shelby was Chairman of theBanking Committee.[2] Wayne Sowell became the first black U.S. Senate nominee of a major party inAlabama.[3]
