Incumbent Republican SenatorRichard Shelby won re-election to a fourth term.

Shelby, who switched parties ten years prior, had over $11 million cash on hand.[1] Shelby was Chairman of theBanking Committee.[2] Wayne Sowell became the first black U.S. Senate nominee of a major party inAlabama.[3]
