2002 UK local government election

Map of the results of the 2002 Southampton council election.Labour in red,Liberal Democrats in yellow andConservatives in blue.

The2002 Southampton Council election took place on 2 May 2002 to elect members ofSouthamptonUnitary Council inHampshire, England. The whole council was up for election with boundary changes since thelast election in 2000 increasing the number of seat by 3.[1] The council stayed underno overall control.[2]

Election result

The results saw no party win a majority on the council,[3] withLabour just remaining the largest party.[4] The Conservatives gained 4 seats,[4] but theConservative group leader,Conor Burns, lost his seat.[3] Burns came fourth inBassettward behind his two party colleagues and Liberal Democrat Elizabeth Mizon.[4]
