On January 27, 2002, aRussian Interior MinistryMil Mi-8 was shot down and exploded nearShelkovskaya in Nadterechny District, killing 14 people including crew. Among those killed in the crash wereLieutenant-General Mikhail Rudchenko responsible for security in theSouthern Federal District, andMajor-GeneralNikolai Goridov, deputy commander of theInternal Troops, as well asColonels Oriyenko, Stepanenko, and Trafimov.[1]
