• 26 September - TheMS Express Samina collided with the Portes Islets rocks in theBay of Parikia off the coast of the Greek island ofParos, resulting in the death of 81 people.
• 1 October – At theClosing Ceremony, the Olympic Games are handover fromSydney toAthens and returned back to birthplace where the they will host the nextOlympic Games in Athens 2004.^[10]
