The1998 CFL season is considered to be the 45th season in modern-dayCanadian football, although it is officially the 41stCanadian Football League season.

TheCanadian Football League signed a five-year television contract withTSN. With the deal, TSN had the right to all CFL television broadcasts. The league also made a sponsorship deal withAdidas, which made them the official footwear, practice wear, and sport glove provider of the CFL.

For only the second time in history, the city ofWinnipeg hosted theGrey Cup game.

The Stampeders have won their first championship since1992. The Stampeders'Jeff Garcia (QB) was named theGrey Cup's Most Valuable Player andVince Danielsen (SB) was theGrey Cup's Most Valuable Canadian.
