The1998–99 season was the 105th season of competitivefootball byCeltic. Celtic competed in theScottish Premier League,UEFA Cup,Scottish League Cup and theScottish Cup.

As defending league champions, they were now managed by Slovak coach Jozef Venglos following the resignation of Wim Jansen. However, they finished runners-up behind Rangers this season and also lost to them in the Scottish Cup final.

Season 1998–99 saw Celtic finish second in the league six points behind winnerRangers.[1] They reached the final of the Scottish Cup losing toRangers,[2] the third round of the League Cup losing toAirdrieonians,[3] the second qualifying round of the Champions League[4] and the second round of the Uefa Cup losing toFC Zürich.[5]

  1. ^SinceRangers, the winners of the1998–99 Scottish Cup, already qualified for theUEFA Champions League,Celtic, the losing finalist, earned a spot in the1999–2000 UEFA Cup. As such, the league's UEFA Cup place moved down to third-placedSt Johnstone.
