The1996 Texas Tech Red Raiders football team representedTexas Tech University as a member of the newly formedBig 12 Conference during the1996 NCAA Division I-A football season. In their tenth season under head coachSpike Dykes, the Red Raiders compiled a 7–5 record (5–3 against Big 12 opponents), finished in second place in Southern Division of the Big 12, outscored opponents by a combined total of 323 to 232, and lost toIowa in the1996 Alamo Bowl.[1] The team played its home games atClifford B. and Audrey Jones Stadium inLubbock, Texas.
