The1996 DFB-Pokal final decided the winner of the1995–96 DFB-Pokal, the 53rd season of Germany's premier knockoutfootball cup competition. It was played on 25 May 1996 at theOlympiastadion inBerlin.[2]1. FC Kaiserslautern won the match 1–0 againstKarlsruher SC to claim their second cup title, qualifying for the1996–97 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup and the1996 DFB-Supercup.
The DFB-Pokal was a 64 teams in asingle-elimination knockout cup competition. There were a total of five rounds leading up to the final. Teams were drawn against each other, and the winner after 90 minutes would advance. If still tied, 30 minutes ofextra time was played. If the score was still level, apenalty shoot-out was used to determine the winner.[3]
