International football competition

The1995UEFA Intertoto Cup was the first edition of the tournament administered by theUEFA. It sawStrasbourg andBordeaux win their semi-finals to advance to the first round of theUEFA Cup, the latter eventually finishingrunners-up. It also saw English representativesWimbledon andTottenham Hotspur banned from European competition for the following season, after both had fielded under-strength sides in their respective Intertoto Cup matches.[1] The ban was lifted on appeal but England were still forced to forfeit theirUEFA Fair Play berth for the1996–97 UEFA Cup.[2][3]

The 1995 competition also saw the return ofYugoslav clubs on the international scene after three years of ban due toUN embargo. However both representatives,Bečej andBudućnost, were eliminated in the group stage.
