The1992 United States presidential election in California took place on November 3, 1992, and was part of the1992 United States presidential election. Voters chose 54 representatives, or electors to theElectoral College, who voted forpresident andvice president.

California voted forDemocratic presidential candidateBill Clinton. His victory marked the first time California had voted for a Democratic presidential nominee sinceLyndon B. Johnson’s1964 landslide, and only the second time since1948. This would also be the first time since1932 that a non-incumbent Democrat won California. Clinton's win in this state reflected the change in its status from a Republican-leaning swing state to a Democratic stronghold. California maintains the largest number of electoral votes in the Electoral College.

It was the first occasion thatSan Diego County had voted for a Democrat sinceFranklin D. Roosevelt in1944, and the county will not vote democrat again until2008 United States presidential election As of the2024 presidential election, this is the last time that any of the following counties were won by the Democratic nominee:Del Norte,Mariposa,Plumas,Siskiyou,Tehama, andTuolumne.[2]Ross Perot gained a plurality inTrinity County, the only time a non-major party candidate has carried any county in the state sinceProgressive Party candidateRobert La Follette Sr. in1924. Perot also won the city ofAvalon on Catalina Island, with 323 votes to George H.W. Bush's 315.[3]
