The1992Citizen Cup was the defender selection series regatta for the1992 America's Cup, held in theUnited States. Two defense syndicates (featuring fiveIACC yachts) competed over fourround robins in order earn a berth in the Citizen Cup finals; the winner earned the right to defend the America's Cup against the winner of theLouis Vuitton Cup (challenger selection series regatta).
The 1992Citizen Cup featured the emergence of theAmerica3 Foundation syndicate headed by American businessmanBill Koch.
TheAmerica3 syndicate included helmsmanBuddy Melges,Gary Jobson,John Kostecki andAndreas Josenhans.[1]
