Four Big East teams received bids to theNational Invitation Tournament, which did not yet haveseeding. They played in three different unnamed brackets. Connecticut lost in the first round. Providence defeated Boston College in the quarterfinals, then lost in the semifinals. Georgetown advanced to the NIT championship game for the first time in school history but lost toMinnesota and finished as the tournament runner-up.
