The1988 United States presidential election in Pennsylvania took place on November 8, 1988, and was part of the1988 United States presidential election. Voters chose 25 representatives, or electors to theElectoral College, who voted forpresident andvice president.

Pennsylvania voted for theRepublican nominee,Vice PresidentGeorge H. W. Bush, over theDemocratic nominee,Massachusetts governorMichael Dukakis. Bush won Pennsylvania by a narrow margin of 2.31%, which made it about 5.5% more Democratic than the nation. This was the last election where Pennsylvania would be carried by a Republican presidential candidate until2016 and the last in which a Republican would win a majority of the statewide vote until2024. As of 2024, Bush's 2.31% margin has not been exceeded by any Republican thus far.

Northampton andLuzerne counties, both statewide bellwethers, would also not vote Republican again until 2016; meanwhile,Bucks County would not do so again until 2024.[2] This is the last time thatErie County voted for the statewide loser, and the only time it has done so since1948. This was also the first election since1932 where Pennsylvania did not vote the same as neighboringNew York, another phenomenon that would not occur again until 2016 and 2024.
