The1986 Wellington City Council election was part of the1986 New Zealand local elections, to elect members to sub-national councils and boards. The polling was conducted using thefirst-past-the-post electoral method.

The Wellington City Council consists of a mayor and twenty-one councillors elected from seven wards (Brooklyn, Eastern, Karori, Lambton, Northern, Otari, Southern).
