The1983 Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team represented theUniversity of Notre Dame in the1983 NCAA Division I-A football season. The team was coached byGerry Faust and played its home games atNotre Dame Stadium inSouth Bend, Indiana.

Notre Dame was invited to theLiberty Bowl where they facedBoston College and their prized quarterbackDoug Flutie. Boston College scored first on a 13-yard touchdown pass but missed the extra point. Notre Dame came back asAllen Pinkett andChris Smith each rushed for 100-plus yards, while Pinkett scored two touchdowns as Notre Dame beat Boston College, 19–18, to win their first bowl game since the1979 Cotton Bowl.
