The1980 Ipswich Borough Council election was thefirst election to theIpswich Borough Council under the system of electing by thirds, whereby a third of the councillors were to stand for election, each time. These new arrangements had been determined by theLocal Government Boundary Commission as laid out in theirReport 280.[1]
It took place as part of the1980 United Kingdom local elections.[2]
There were 16 wards each returning one councillor.[3] TheLabour Party retained control of the Council.[2]
