The1979 North Hertfordshire District Council election was held on 3 May 1979, at the same time as otherlocal elections across England and Wales and the1979 United Kingdom general election. All 50 seats onNorth Hertfordshire District Council were up for election following ward boundary changes.[1]

The election saw theConservatives increase their majority on the council.[2]

The number of seats on the council was increased from 48 to 50 and there were extensive ward boundary changes. The new ward arrangements allowed for the council to subsequently be elected roughly a third at a time rather than all at once.[1] The results for each ward were as follows. An asterisk(*) indicates a sitting councillor standing for re-election.[3][4]
