The1979 Australian Grand Prix was an open-wheel racing car race held atWanneroo Raceway^[1] north ofPerth inWestern Australia on 11 March 1979.

The race, which was the first round of the1979 Australian Drivers' Championship,^[2] was open to racing cars complying withAustralian Formula 1^[3] (incorporatingFormula 5000 andFormula Pacific). It was recognised by theConfederation of Australian Motor Sport as the 44thAustralian Grand Prix^[4] and was the only Australian Grand Prix to be held at the Wanneroo Raceway.
