The1979–80 European Cup was the 25th season of theEuropean Cup,UEFA's premier clubfootball competition. The tournament was won byholdersNottingham Forest in thefinal againstHamburg. The winning goal was scored byJohn Robertson, who drilled the ball into the corner of the Hamburg net from outside the penalty area. Nottingham Forest remain the only side to have won the European Cup more times than theirdomestic top flight.
