Chris Evert andMartina Navratilova were the defending champions,^[1] but decided not to play together. Evert partnered withRosie Casals, but they lost in the second round toHelen Cawley andJoAnne Russell.^[1]

Cawley and Russell defeated Navratilova andBetty Stöve in the final, 6–3, 6–3 to win the ladies' doubles tennis title at the 1977 Wimbledon Championships.^[1][2]
