The1976 United States presidential election in Connecticut took place on November 2, 1976. All 50 states andThe District of Columbia, were part of the1976 United States presidential election. Connecticut voters chose eight electors to theElectoral College, who voted forpresident andvice president.
Connecticut was won by theRepublican nominees, incumbentPresidentGerald Ford ofMichigan and his running mateSenatorBob Dole ofKansas. Ford and Dole defeated theDemocratic nominees,GovernorJimmy Carter ofGeorgia and his running mateSenatorWalter Mondale ofMinnesota.
Ford narrowly carried Connecticut with 52.06% of the vote to Carter's 46.90%, a victory margin of 5.16%.[2] As of the2020 United States presidential election[update], this is the last time a Democrat has won the presidency without carrying Connecticut. The state would not vote for a losing candidate again until2000, and for the loser of the popular vote until2004.
