The1969 European Cup Winners' Cup Final was the finalfootball match of the1968–69 European Cup Winners' Cup and the ninthEuropean Cup Winners' Cup final. It was contested betweenSlovan Bratislava ofCzechoslovakia andBarcelona ofSpain, and was held atSt. Jakob Stadium inBasel,Switzerland. Slovan won the match 3–2 thanks to goals fromĽudovít Cvetler,Vladimír Hrivnák andJán Čapkovič. The game was broadcast on television in 17 countries, and 13 on the radio.[1]

Following Slovan's victory, managerMichal Vičan described himself as extremely happy. He pointed out that defensive errors on both sides had led to goals, and commended his team's fighting spirit. He also stated that his players represented Czechoslovakia well and wished the national team success for their1970 FIFA World Cup qualification – UEFA Group 2 match away in Hungary four days later.[3]
Barcelona managerSalvador Artigas congratulated his opponents, describing the Bratislava players as more tactical and combative. He also bemoaned his side's bad luck.[4]
Těžko se mi hovoří, jsem nesmírně šťasten. Vím, že jsme nepodali takový výkon, jaký se od nás očekával, ale chlapcům nelze upřit velkou bojovnost a snahu po vítězství. Obě mužstva se zejména v obraně dopustila několika chyb, z kterých padly goly. Ale tak už to ve fotbale bývá. Myslím si, že jsme dobře reprezentovali československý fotbal a dokázali jeho stoupající tendenci. Podobný uspěch bych přál i našim reprezentantům v Budapešti.[It's hard for me to speak, I'm extremely happy. Myslím, že finále mělo dobrou uroveň. Střetla se v něm dvě technická mužstva a podle mého názoru zvítězili štastnější bratislavští fotbalisté. Na naše kopačky se lepila smůla. Mohli jsme zápas vyhrát, ale pohár ziskal taktičtější a bojovnější soupeř. Patři mu za to naše blahopřání.[I think there was a good level in the final. Two technical teams came together and in my opinion, the luckier Bratislava players won. Bad luck stuck to our boots. We could have won the match, but the cup was won by a more tactical and combative opponent. For that they deserve our congratulations.]
