The1966NCAA Skiing Championships were contested at theCrested Butte ski area inCreated Butte,Colorado at the thirteenth annual NCAA-sanctioned ski tournament to determine the individual and team national champions of men's collegiatealpine skiing,cross-country skiing, andski jumping in theUnited States.[1]
Denver, coached byWilly Schaeffler, captured their tenth, and sixth consecutive, national championship, edging out localsWestern State in the team standings.[1][2] The Pioneers' sole individual win was byTerje Øverland in downhill.[1]
Repeat individual champions wereMike Elliott ofFort Lewis in cross country,[3] andWestern State's Loris Werner (skimeister).Bill Marolt ofColorado won the slalom and alpine titles to add to his two previous in downhill (1963,1965).Utah'sFrithjof Prydz regained the jumping crown he wontwo years earlier and added the nordic.[1][2]
This year's championships were held March 3–5 inColorado atCrested Butte,[3] north ofGunnison.
The thirteenth edition, these were the third championships in Colorado and the first at Crested Butte;Winter Park hosted in1956 and1959.
