The1963NCAA Skiing Championships were contested at theSolitude Ski Resort inBig Cottonwood Canyon,Utah at the tenth annual NCAA-sanctioned ski tournament to determine the individual and team national champions of men's collegiatealpine skiing,cross-country skiing, andski jumping in theUnited States.[1]
Denver, coached byWilly Schaeffler, captured their seventh, and third consecutive, national championship, again edging out rivalColorado in the team standings.[2]
Jim Page ofDartmouth repeated as Skimeister (all four events). The downhill competition on Friday was a three-way tie, won by Dave Gorsuch ofWestern State and Colorado'sBill Marolt andBuddy Werner,[3] who reclaimed the alpine combined title he wontwo years earlier.[4] FutureOlympic bronze medalistJimmie Heuga of Colorado won Thursday's slalom, passing teammates Marolt and Werner in the second run.[5][6]
This year's championships were held March 21–23 inUtah at Solitude inBig Cottonwood Canyon, southeast ofSalt Lake City.[7] The tenth edition, these were the second in Utah and theWasatch Range;Snow Basin (onMount Ogden) hosted six years earlier in1957.
