The1962 NCAA College Division football season was the seventh season ofcollege football in the United States organized by theNational Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at theCollege Division level.
In the finalAssociated Press (AP) small-college poll,Florida A&M was the top-rated team. The Rattlers subsequently lost toJackson State in theOrange Blossom Classic.United Press International (UPI) namedSouthern Miss as the top-ranked team in their final small-college poll.

In 1962, bothUnited Press International (UPI) and theAssociated Press (AP) conducted "small college" polls, and selected different number one teams.[2][3] UPI's panel of coaches selectedSouthern Miss, who had a record of 9–1 with their sole defeat coming in an 8–6 loss toMemphis State.[4] The AP's panel of sportswriters selectedFlorida A&M, who had a 9–0 record including four shutouts.[5] The Rattlers went on to playJackson State in theOrange Blossom Classic, but lost 22–6.
