Parliamentary elections were held inRomania on 5 March 1961.[1] Voters were presented with a single list from thePeople's Democratic Front (FDP),[2] which was dominated by theRomanian Workers Party (PMR).[3] The Front won all 465 seats in theGreat National Assembly.[4]
Candidates were elected in single member constituencies, and had to receive over 50% of the vote.[5] If no candidate passed this threshold, or ifvoter turnout in the constituency was less than 50%, re-runs were held until the requirements were met.[5] Candidates could be nominated by the FDP or mass organisations, although the latter were monitored by the Front.[5] Voters had the option of voting against the Front candidates.[2]
