Managerial and coaching turnover

[edit]

After3+12 seasons at the helm of the Braves and compiling arecord of341–231 (.596) with twoNL pennants and the1957 World Series championship, managerFred Haney, 63, resigned on October 4 in the wake of the1959tie-breaker series loss to theL.A. Dodgers.[8][9] On October 24, the Braves appointed another veteran skipper,Chuck Dressen, 65, well known as the manager of the "Boys of Summer"Brooklyn Dodgers of19511953, as Haney's successorfor 1960.[10][11][12] The Braves had considered a number of high-profile former big-league managers,[9] as well as minor league skipperBen Geraghty, before settling on Dressen.

Pitching coachWhit Wyatt was Dressen's only 1960 holdover from Haney's coaching staff, withBilly Herman,John Fitzpatrick andGeorge Susce all departing with Haney.
