The1959USA Indoor Track and Field Championships were organized by theAmateur Athletic Union (AAU) and served as thenational championships in indoortrack and field for theUnited States.
The men's edition was held atMadison Square Garden inNew York City, New York, and it took place February 21. The women's meet was held separately at theD.C. Armory inWashington, D.C., taking place January 24.[1]
At the men's championships, five world records were set including a mark of 4:02.5 in the indoor mile byRon Delany. 15,789 spectators attended the men's edition.[2][3]
After two exhibition races the prior year, it was the first time that the women's440 yards and880 yards were contested, and the first time that any distance longer than 220 yards was added.[4][5]
