Angela Buxton andAlthea Gibson defeatedFay Muller andDaphne Seeney in the final, 6–1, 8–6 to win the ladies' doubles tennis title at the 1956 Wimbledon Championships.^[1] Gibson became the first African American to win aWimbledon title; she would go on to win thesingles title the next year.

Angela Mortimer andAnne Shilcock were the defending champions, but lost in the semifinals to Muller and Seeney.
