Idaho was won byColumbia University President Dwight D. Eisenhower (R –New York ), running withSenator Richard Nixon , with 65.42 percent of the popular vote, againstAdlai Stevenson (D –Illinois ), running withSenator John Sparkman , with 34.42 percent of the popular vote.
Eisenhower became the first Republican sinceHerbert Hoover in1928 to win Idaho in a presidential election.
