The1949 California Golden Bears football team was anAmerican football team that represented theUniversity of California, Berkeley in thePacific Coast Conference (PCC) during the1949 college football season. In their third year under head coachPappy Waldorf, theGolden Bears compiled a 10–1 record (7–0 in PCC, first), won a second straight conference title, lost toOhio State in theRose Bowl, and outscored its opponents 319 to 131.[1][2] Home games were played on campus atCalifornia Memorial Stadium inBerkeley, California.

California was ranked third in the finalAP poll, released in late November.
