The1947 Philadelphia mayoral election saw the reelection ofBernard Samuel. To date, this is the last mayoral election in Philadelphia won by aRepublican.[1] Samuel defeated Democratic Party nominee, first-time candidateRichardson Dilworth. Dilworth would subsequently go on to be the unsuccessful Democratic Party nominee forgovernor of Pennsylvaniain 1950 before being electedPhiladelphia district attorneyin 1951 and mayor of Philadelphiain 1955.
