The1944 Winter Olympics, officially known as theV Olympic Winter Games (Italian:V Giochi olimpici invernali) after the cancellation of1940 Winter Olympics, were a planned internationalmulti-sport event scheduled to have been held in February 1944 inCortina d'Ampezzo,Italy. The games were cancelled because ofWorld War II alongside the1944 Summer Olympics inLondon,Great Britain, and were the fourth games to be cancelled due to war.[1]

The games eventually took place inSt. Moritz,Switzerland in1948. Cortina d'Ampezzo would later host the1956 Winter Olympics, and will co-host the2026 Winter Olympics withMilan.
