The1942 Illinois Fighting Illini football team was anAmerican football team that represented theUniversity of Illinois during the1942 Big Ten Conference football season. In their first season under head coachRay Eliot, the Illini compiled a 6–4 record and finished in a tie for third place in theBig Ten Conference.[1] Illinois was ranked at No. 11 (out of 590 college and military teams) in the final rankings under theLitkenhous Difference by Score System for 1942.[2]

End Elmer Engel was selected as the team's most valuable player.[3] GuardAlex Agase received second-team honorshonors from theUnited Press on the1942 All-Big Ten Conference football team.[4]

The team played its home games atMemorial Stadium inChampaign, Illinois.
