In its first season under head coachThomas Dowler, the team compiled a 5–4 record and was outscored by a total of 132 to 122. Dominic Patella was the team captain.[1]

Akron was ranked at No. 228 (out of 609 teams) in the finalLitkenhous Ratings for 1939.[2]
